Ahmet Cüneyt Er

Ahmet Cüneyt Er is a ceramic artist and academic. After graduating from the Department of Ceramics and Glass, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dokuz Eylül University, in 1995, Ahmet Cüneyt Er completed a master’s degree in ceramics at Anadolu University and, in 2011, a Proficiency in Art degree at Dokuz Eylül University. Since 1995, the artist has worked in the Department of Applied Fine Arts at the Anadolu University School for the Handicapped, becoming a professor in 2025. Ahmet Cüneyt Er teaches ceramic sculpture and functional ceramics and takes part in group exhibitions.

Why the Teapot?

My first encounter with the teapot form came through a project set by my teacher Tüzüm Kızılcan in my student years, and I have never been able to break away from it since. For about 25 years I have been researching tea culture and teapot forms, and making teapots. The dynamics of the teapot form have always captivated me. The form’s openness to variation and its close relationship with culture, with the natural, and with nature have always pushed me to produce more. The emotions I want to convey, everything that inspires me, every subject I long for can find a place in my teapots. And of course there are my bowls; they can take in everything, every emotion. Sometimes they also hold all evils captive inside them…
