Artists › Ali Kotan
Ali Kotan was born in Ankara in 1959. In 1983, Kotan graduated from the Department of Art Education (Resim-İş), Faculty of Education, Gazi University.
Kotan’s paintings, which bring together a social dynamism and the expressionist potential of the bodily form to release human energy, take on meaning around the inexhaustibility of the human being and the power of solidarity. The supple formations of the paint are regarded as the main factor in externalizing an exuberant, irrepressible movement. In the 1980s in particular, Kotan shared the attitudes of a young generation that, grounded in the questioning of reality, sought radical change.
