Artists › Emel Ülüş
Born in Ankara in 1984, Emel Ülüş studied printmaking and painting at the undergraduate and master's levels at Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir, and pursued doctoral studies in fine arts education at Anadolu University. Ülüş taught graphic design at Doğuş University in 2010–2012 and worked as an art teacher from 2011 to 2019. Ülüş's works, which question the concept of relationship and the meanings attached to female identity in society, bring together different disciplines such as video, sound installation, and mixed media. In “Payda,” a project begun with women in Kalamış Park and continuing as crochet work in white thread, Ülüş foregrounds collective production and process. Ülüş works in a studio in Istanbul.
