Artists › Evren Selçuk
Born in Diyarbakır in 1982, Evren Selçuk completed undergraduate and graduate studies in painting. Selçuk’s work questions the relationship between production and consumption, as well as the ideology of power, through site-specific installations, industrial objects, video, and performance, turning fictional stories that appear realistic into parody. The “Standard Profile” series is based on a fictional factory that produces gas masks and has made protecting human health its mission. With a work from this series, Selçuk took part in the exhibition of the 3rd International Mehmet Başbuğ Art Research Symposium in 2021; the series’ performative installation exhibition “Üretim & Hayal Kırıklığı” opened at Bilsart in Istanbul in August 2022.
