Statement

The artist explores the self of the individual striving to exist, and the tense relationship the individual has with dominating power structures that seek to shape the self through culture, by way of concepts such as violence, fear, anxiety, desire, disintegration, oppression, annihilation, confinement, and lack. The artist turns this coercive structure of relations, which cannot be put into words on the psychological level, into perceptible forms, sometimes through analogies of the body and sometimes through cultural images. The forms of the works, and the relationship these forms establish with the material, make various references to society as well as to the self. The choices of material are therefore closely related to the concepts addressed. In this way the artist tries to create a tiny crack in everyday life, so that viewers can look again, from a different perspective, at themselves, at the social life they belong to, and at cultural conditions and discourses.
