Statement

The plastic foundation of Görkem Dikel's works is formed by the processes of transition among the four states of matter and the movements of these states in space-time. With an abstracting formal language, the artist builds a conception of space on the point that physics has reached today. Making the transformation and movement of matter in space, and its interaction with presumed emptiness, the core of the artist's approach to form, Dikel adds to it unusual dimensions and oscillations through juxtapositions and superpositions.

Solids evaporate, liquids freeze, air solidifies, what is behind appears in front, and the atoms that make up reality tear like a curtain. In Dikel's works, the inevitable and unfathomable phenomena of the universe burst unannounced into the individual's daily life, creating a sense of alienation.

Drawing on science fiction, crime fiction, iconology, fairy tales, and personal memories, the artist at times makes use of paint's ability to represent any material, and at other times chooses to let paint represent only itself, presenting paintings that resemble collage.
