Artsürem is an art gallery, an online exhibition platform and an academic publisher founded in Ankara in 2016. It brings together selected works from masters to young artists, curated online exhibitions, a notebook for collectors and peer-reviewed journals under one roof.
A gallery's job is to bring a work and its buyer together. We do this without hurry: we show each work with its correct details, discuss price and delivery with every buyer individually, and close each sale with a certificate. Our relationship with an artist does not end with a sale either; it continues in exhibitions, catalogues and publications.
For now our exhibitions open online. When a show closes its page stays at the same address, its catalogue receives an ISBN and its record enters the archives. The artist leaves with a certificate that can still be shown years later. In short: the exhibition closes, the record remains.
Then there is our publishing side: peer-reviewed journals in art, language and the social sciences, and a bookshop. The gallery and the publisher feed each other; exhibition catalogues come out of the bookshop, and what is written in the journals links back to the artists' pages.
"Artsürem" is a term from the social sciences (diachrony): one element giving way to another over time, seeing the predecessor and the successor together. We named the gallery after this chronological structure of art. Its counterpart, synchrony, matters just as much to us: showing today's artists alongside one another and alongside their masters.
